Becoming one space

 사업으로 인해 미국과 한국을 자주 드나드는 클라이언트는 집같지 않으면서 집처럼 편한 느낌의 집을 원했다. 삶의 방식이 남들과 다르고 34평 일반 아파트의 공간 구조를 그대로 사용할 필요가 없었기에 공간 구획과 스타일링 또한 다른 방식으로 접근하였다.

 기본적으로 가벽과 도어로 막혀있던 거실-주방, 드레스룸-안방, 안방욕실-파우더룸을 하나로 이어 시선과 동선의 흐름이 이어지도록 하였다. 그리고 세컨드 하우스로 머무르게 될 공간이라 혼자 지낼 때는 거실과 방 사이의 도어를 개방하여 공간을 널찍하고 자유롭게 사용할 수 있도록 했다. 또한 시선의 확장이 일어나도록 신발장과 드레스룸의 마주하는 벽, 그리고 외부 창문쪽에 전신거울을 두어 공간이 넓고 깊어보일 수 있도록 연출하였다. 주요한 컨셉이나 포인트 외의 요소를 최소화한 공간에 집주인이 좋아하거나 아끼는 것들을 고심하여 채워 집주인을 닮은 갤러리같은 집이 되었다.

 Because of frequent business trips between the U.S. and Korea, the client wanted a home that didn’t quite feel like a home — yet still offered the same sense of comfort. Since his way of living differed from others, there was no need to maintain the conventional spatial layout of a typical 34-pyeong apartment. The planning and styling of the space were therefore approached from a completely different perspective.

 The living room and kitchen, dressing room and master bedroom, and the master bathroom and powder room — which had originally been separated by partition walls and doors — were connected into continuous spaces, allowing the flow of sight and movement to extend naturally throughout.
 As this residence would serve as a second home, the layout was designed so that when staying alone, the client could open the doors between the living room and bedroom to enjoy a broad and open sense of space. To further enhance the perception of depth, full-height mirrors were installed on the facing walls of the shoe cabinet and dressing room, as well as on the window side, visually expanding the space. By minimizing unnecessary elements and carefully filling the interior with objects and artworks the homeowner loves, the result became a gallery-like home that truly reflects the personality of its owner.
