Big Island

기다란 형태의 평면 가운데 위치한 현관을 통해 주방으로 진입하도록 되어 있는 불편한 구조를 역으로 활용해서 현관의 왼쪽은 프라이버시가 필요한 방들, 오른쪽은 주방-다이닝-시네마룸으로 분리했다. 

집의 중심부에 7.5m 길이의 아일랜드를 두어 지인을 초대하여 다양한 모임을 즐기시는 고객의 니즈를 적극 반영했다. 또한 공용부에서 자연스럽게 이어지는 갤러리 복도에는 히든도어를 통해 들어갈 수 있는 프라이빗한 방들을 배치했다. 

히든도어로 수납 기능과 방의 위치를 집주인만 알 수 있도록 숨기고 인방이 없는 가벽들을 오브제처럼 세워두어 모던한 갤러리처럼 연출했다. 블랙을 좋아하는 고객의 취향이 반영된 욕실과 침실은 도어를 열었을 때 또 다른 세계로 안내하는 느낌을 준다. 

 Taking advantage of the long, linear floor plan—where the entrance was inconveniently placed at the center—the design reversed this limitation into an organizing principle. The left side of the entry was allocated to private rooms requiring seclusion, while the right side was opened up to form a continuous sequence of kitchen, dining, and cinema areas. At the heart of the home lies a 7.5-meter-long island, designed to accommodate the client’s lifestyle of frequently hosting friends and gatherings. Extending naturally from the shared spaces, a gallery-like corridor leads to private rooms accessible through hidden doors, maintaining both spatial clarity and discretion. Storage and room entrances are cleverly concealed behind hidden doors known only to the homeowner, while freestanding partial walls without lintels act as sculptural objects—transforming the interior into a modern gallery. The bathroom and bedroom, finished in tones of deep black reflecting the client’s taste, evoke the sensation of stepping into another world each time the doors are opened.
